SBS Initiative: Culturally competent supervision training

 

Culturally competent supervision training was embedded within staff development structures and focused on racialised power dynamics in supervisory relationships to improve doctoral experience.  

This initiative delivered targeted training for doctoral supervisors focused on culturally competent supervision and awareness of racialised power dynamics in supervisory relationships. The aim was to improve doctoral experience and reduce harm arising from outdated or biased supervisory practices. The direct target group was academic supervisors, with Black postgraduate researchers (PGRs) as the primary intended beneficiaries.
