This initiative funded six-week pre-registration summer schools for incoming Surrey Black Scholars, covering accommodation and living costs. Its aim was to support scholars’ transition into doctoral study by reducing financial precarity at the pre-enrolment stage while strengthening research readiness and confidence. It was delivered as a structured programme combining skills development, supervisory engagement, and peer networking, and functioned as both a financial and transitional intervention to address early-stage risks of doctoral attrition.
